Name: The Opioid Crisis in Indiana - a UC2 panel discussion
Date: September 21, 2017
Time: 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM EDT
Event Description:
According to a fall 2016 report by the Indiana Governor’s Task Force on Drug Enforcement, Treatment and Prevention, the state has experienced a significant increase in residents with substance use disorders. As a result, the death rate by overdose was almost six times higher in 2014 as it was in 2000. The state has responded to this multifaceted problem in various ways, and it has emerged as an important issue at the federal level as well. How should we understand the opioid crisis? What are we doing to address it? What is the outlook for the individuals, families and communities faced with these challenges, and how can we care for them as they do? This UC2 event will feature panelists working on these issues at the local, state and national levels, and they will take your questions. Participants: Jim McClelland, Executive Director for Drug Prevention, Treatment and Enforcement for the State of Indiana Hodge Patel, State Director for Senator Joe Donnelly’s office Dr. Deborah McMahan, Fort Wayne-Allen County Health Commissioner Marcia Haaff, Chief Executive Officer, The Lutheran Foundation Megan C. Fisher, Director of Addiction Recovery Services, Otis R. Bowen Center
