Name: Identity and Inequality in the Workplace - a UC2 panel discussion
Date: November 16, 2017
Time: 6:00 PM - 7:15 PM EST
Event Description:

Identity and Inequality in the Workplace Thursday, November 16, 6:00 PM Allen County Public Library, Pontiac Branch, Large Meeting Room, 2215 S Hanna St, Fort Wayne, IN 46803 This year UC2 is exploring how we care for the community in Northeast Indiana. Wage inequality has increased across the board during the past 40 years, a fact brought into relief during the most recent economic downturn. Alongside rising economic inequality are a number identities (racial, ethnic, gender, etc.) that play a role in deciding where one falls on that line of inequality. This is particularly the case when considering concepts like “professionalism” and workplace social expectations, which very often carry normative notions of workplace identity. Does “professionalism” reinforce already-existing inequalities? Can broader notions of the social spaces of work create more opportunities for a more diverse workforce? Does attention to these issues create opportunities to address rising inequality? Can creating a more caring workplace for workers address both identity and inequality? The panelists will discuss these topics and will take your questions. Join the conversation! Contact: Panelists: Christine Marcuccilli, Associate Director of Compliance, Title IX Coordinator, IPFW Victoria Sarjeant, Assistant Director of Alumni Relations, IPFW Ken Christmon, Associate Vice Chancellor for Admissions and Chief Diversity Officer, IPFW Dr. Kim McDonald, Professor of Organizational Leadership, Associate Dean of Engineering, Technology and Computer Science
