NIHRA Presents: Why Empathy Matters: Creating a Culture of Connection
NIHRA Monthly Luncheon
November's Topic: Why Empathy Matters: Creating a Culture of Connection with Leslie Weirich
Leaders are not responsible for the job. Leaders are responsible for the people that are responsible for the job.
MIT documents that 8 out of 10 employees are struggling with burnout, exhaustion, anxiety, depression, loneliness and isolation, financial pressures, family and relationship struggles and the list goes on. Those struggles are deeply impacting their ability to do their best work. How do we tackle that? Professional therapy and self care will help to a certain point. However, if these employees are not feeling support for their struggles from their manager or leader than these numbers won't change.
Employee well being all points to the skills of the leader and most leaders are struggling themselves. They don't feel equipped to know how to support those suffering with these conditions. They don't feel equipped to know how to support their employees. They are not familiar with leading "the whole employee". They operate with the "you leave your personal life at home mentality."
This talk is going to cover the new paradigm and why empathy in the workplace is no longer a soft skill. There are tangible tools of connection to teach leaders how to address burnout and exhaustion head on and build a culture where people want to show up for work.
